5 Quick Tips to Succeed in Indie Publishing

1. Take your time- It's not a race. Not at all. You need to make sure everything is perfect. Be diligent. Read and re-read. Edit and re-edit. You want only your best work out there. And you don't want any regrets.

2. Educate- Do your research. Learn everything you can about publishing, both trad and indie. This is also a good time to research your genre and other books in it.

3. Know your target audience- Don't ever glance over this step. It is import to know who you are selling to. Know there habits, there wants, their desires. And learn how to reach them. Find out where they are. Everything.

4. Stay committed- Don't give up. It's not an easy path to publishing. You need to understand it will take time and you need to stay focused and committed.

5. Ignore naysayers- There's a stigma with Indie Publishing and a lot of controversy  over which is the best path. If you are an indie publisher then you feel this is the best path for you. Don't let others question your decisions or make you feel like less of an author/writer. Push forward, produce great material and end the stigma.

And a bonus tip...

6. Have fun- You are doing this because you like this. You are a writer. You have to write. It's in your blood. And you are a business person. Don't forget why you make this jump into the publishing world. Smile lots and have fun!

Best to all,
Becca

  1. Those are great tips. I think #6 can get lost after some time, but it is one of the most important.

  2. Excellent tips. I went the indie route last year, and I think the only thing I would add is to remember that indie publishing is a long-term investment.
